What does zone 9 mean?

climat
Luna Dreamer Chaos asked:

I know that plants are suposed to grow in certain arias and those arias have a number.
What do those numbers mean? What kind of climat do they have? How much rain?
Which are the temperatures in winter and in summer?
I’m from Europe, but I think I understand how it goes… I really got all wrong… but at least I know how it goes now… sort of…

    Hey Luna,

Here is a map that shows the zones. If you buy a plant, it will be labeled with the Zone – so you know if it will grow in your area.

Zone 9 is pretty far south. That’s like mid to southern Florida or Texas. Very warm almost no frost ever.

    Hi:
Zone nine is considered a sub-tropical to tropical zone. The zone nine is based in the United States. There is no frost in the winter months and the temperatures are usually in the 50′s and 60′s at night. Some parts of zone nine can get into the 40′s during a cold snap. Day time temperatures in the winter can range from the 60′s to the 80′s.

In the summer, most nine zone climates are humid and very warm. Nights are generally in the 60′s and 70′s, and day time can be 80′s and 90′s. There are many other countries that have the same climate as zone nine. Some of the tropics as well as Europe and the Mediterranean.

I will link you to the learning center of my website. There is a United States climate zone map. I will also link you to the tropic sections as there are plants that will grow well in zone nine as well as other articles you might enjoy! Hope this information has helped you and have a great day!

Zone 9 is your hardiness zone. Most maps will tell you what your average minimum temperatures have been. Zone 9 average minimum winter temperature can be anywhere from 30 degrees down to 20 degrees. I don’t know exactly what area of zone nine we are talking about. So the rain fall I am unsure of . Winter months will be very mild. I hope this helps you with your selection of plants.

    Happy Gardening!!!!!
