Essentially the issue with the economy right now is banks can’t or won’t lend money. The credit markets have frozen up.
When this happens it is harder for businesses to get money to expand their operations or even maintain their current operations. Businesses have to divert funds to the most critical segments. This means there is less money to higher new people or invest in new equipment (software, hardware, etc).
When this happens on a large scale it adversely affects the computer industry and pretty much all other industries, because businesses are making due with what they have. Less income for other businesses means they have to go through the same process and there is a vicious downward spiral.
This is why things are so scary right now…
